Frantic Dems Renew Call For End to Senate Filibuster So They Can Codify Roe v. Wade Into Federal Law

Immediately following an unprecedented leak of a preliminary Supreme Court decision indicating a majority of justices want to overturn Roe v. Wade and return the issue of abortion to the states, the immediate response by Democrats and their cultural warrior left wasn’t to defend the integrity of the court and demand that the leaker be discovered and appropriately dealt with.

No.

Their first instinct was to cause further destruction to our governing institutions in order to get what they want.

The Blaze has more:

A chorus of Democratic congressional candidates and incumbent lawmakers are calling for an immediate end to the Senate filibuster and federal legislation that would codify abortion rights following a report that the U.S. Supreme Court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade.

On Monday night, Politico published what it said was a draft Supreme Court opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito for Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a case concerning Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban. “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” the purported draft opinion by Alito states, referring to two landmark abortion rulings that created a constitutional right to kill preborn children in America.

Politico’s report caused a political earthquake, with Republicans welcoming the news — but expressing concerns over the unprecedented leak of a Supreme Court majority opinion — and Democrats shrieking their outrage.

“If the report is accurate, the Supreme Court is poised to inflict the greatest restriction of rights in the past fifty years – not just on women but on all Americans,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a joint statement. “The Republican-appointed Justices’ reported votes to overturn Roe v. Wade would go down as an abomination, one of the worst and most damaging decisions in modern history.”

In the tweet, Schumer claimed: “Several conservative Justices, who are in no way accountable to the people, have lied to the Senate, ripped up the Constitution, and defiled precedent and the Court’s reputation—all at the expense of women who could soon be stripped of bodily autonomy and constitutional rights.”

In fact, no justice — liberal or conservative — is “accountable” to the people. They are “accountable” to the rule of law and the Constitution. The people who nominate or confirm those justices are the ones ‘accountable’ to the people. That’s our system, and Democrats are constantly trying to blow it up, as we see here.

In the wake of the leak, Democrats began calling anew for the Senate to ditch the filibuster, which is a rule requiring 60 votes to end debate in order to pass major legislation. In addition, they demanded that Congress codify abortion rights in federal law, which would supposedly prevent states from enacting pro-life legislation (but then, a ban on recreational use of marijuana has been ‘codified in federal law,’ and how many states are ignoring it?).

“Let’s be clear: The right to an abortion is sacred. Democrats have to act quickly to get rid of the filibuster to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act + finally codify Roe into law,” said Pennsylvania Lt. Governor John Fetterman, a candidate for Senate, blared.

“Control of the Senate has never been more important: it’s time to end the filibuster, pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, and fight like hell to make sure all Ohio families are free to make these critical decisions without interference from politicians in Columbus or Washington,” said Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), another Senate candidate.

“Democrats need to end the filibuster, codify Roe, and defend reproductive freedom,” said Wisconsin state treasurer and Democratic Senate candidate Sarah Godlewski.

Democrats; their first response to someone burning down our system of government is to toss in a few more sticks of dynamite, not grab a fire extinguisher.
