Democrat Who Denied Trump's Victory Called Out After Claiming Denying Elections 'Hallmark' of Fascism

A long-serving Democrat who claimed that Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential victory was illegitimate is being ripped for what he now says about so-called ‘election deniers.’

Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, during an appearance Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” lauded President Joe Biden’s highly divisive prime-time speech on Thursday during which he labeled half the voting public as a threat to the republic because they supported then-President Donald Trump in the 2020 election. Biden also took heat after claiming many Republicans were embracing “semi-fascism.”

Raskin claimed that one of the “hallmarks” of a fascist society was one side refusing to accept the other side’s victory as he reflected on Trump’s repeated claims that the 2020 election was rife with fraud, noting that every case the former president’s lawyers put forth in the courts was rejected.

“Two of the hallmarks of a fascist political party are, one, they don’t accept the results of elections that don’t go their way, and two, they embrace political violence. And I think that’s why President Biden was right to sound the alarm this week,” he added.

The Daily Wire adds:

But Raskin hasn’t always been so accepting of election results himself. In January of 2017 — when it came time for Congress to certify the results of the 2016 election — Raskin was among those who argued that the votes cast by electors from the state of Florida should not stand.

And, for the record, most of those in his party — including two-time presidential loser Hillary Clinton — refused to acknowledge Trump’s legitimate victory.

Then-Vice President Biden struck down the various objections by several Democrats including Raskin, saying, “Please come to order. The objection cannot be received.”

Naturally, Raskin dismissed being called out for his massive hypocrisy with a claim that in January 2017, no one had stormed the Capitol building — as if that changes the constitutional and legal processes of objecting to electoral votes, which takes a House and Senate member.

This partisan hack “also objected to the 2000 presidential election, stating in a video unearthed by the Republican National Committee that former President George W. Bush had effectively been appointed by the Supreme Court rather than elected by the American people,” The Daily Wire noted.

In his speech last week, which was widely panned, Biden said during the speech at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, with a pair of U.S. Marines in the background: “We must be honest with each other and with ourselves. Too much of what’s happening in our country today is not normal. Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.”

“MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution,” he claimed without context or explanation. “They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people. They refuse to accept the results of a free election.”

“And they’re working right now, as I speak in state after state, to give the power to decide elections in America to partisans and cronies, empowering election-deniers to undermine democracy itself,” Biden continued.

“MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards. Backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love. They promote authoritarian leaders and they fan the flames of political violence that are a threat to our personal rights, to the pursuit of justice, to the rule of law, to the very soul of this country,” ‘President Unity’ added.
