D.C. Councilwoman Who Hailed 'Sanctuary City' Status Now Whines City Is 'Border Town' - Blames GOP, Not Biden

A Democratic Washington, D.C. councilwoman who once celebrated the fact that the nation’s capital was a “sanctuary city” for illegal immigrants is now complaining that it’s become a “border town” thanks to GOP Gov. Greg Abbott.

The Texas Republican has been busing migrants to D.C. since the spring and has now sent so many to the nation’s capitol that the Democrats who run the city are beginning to complain — despite their past public adoration for migrants.

“So it’s been said, but it’s worth reiterating that the governors of Texas and Arizona have created this crisis and the federal government has not stepped up to assist the District of Columbia,” Councilmember Brianne Nadeau whined during a Thursday press conference. “In many ways the governors, Texas and Arizona have turned us into a border town.”

The Blaze added:

Nadeau’s laughable comments — made despite Washington, D.C., being more than 2,000 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border — were made at the same press conference where D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a public emergency over the influx of migrants.

In response to the border crisis — in which millions of migrants have poured into the U.S. under President Joe Biden’s leadership — Abbott and Ducey began sending migrants to D.C., New York City, and Chicago earlier this year. All of the Democrat-run cities have bemoaned the flood of migrants despite being sanctuary cities.

Just three short years ago during then-President Donald Trump’s administration, when we had leader who took the sovereignty of our borders seriously, Nadeau hailed her city’s “sanctuary” status when she repeated an earlier demand to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“The District is a sanctuary city, which means our law enforcement does not cooperate with ICE,” she said. “As Councilmember, I have called for an abolition of ICE and wrote DC’s law to establish a permanent immigrant legal services fund.”

Serious people, however, mocked Nadeau’s ‘border town’ claim, including Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin, who has been covering the Biden Border Crisis since the beginning of the current president’s term, when he reversed nearly all of Trump’s immigration and border security policies.

Melugin noted that more migrants enter major cities along the border in a week than have been sent to D.C. during the crisis.

“A ridiculous statement. Washington D.C., a metro of 700,000 people, has had about 8,000 migrants dropped off by the state of Texas over a span of 4-5 MONTHS,” Melugin said. “Eagle Pass, TX, a population of 30,000, gets 10,000 migrants in a single WEEK. D.C. is no border town.”
