‘Creepy Porn Lawyer’ Michael Avenatti Facing Hundreds Of Years In Prison

Attorney Michael Avenatti, whom Democrats and liberal media outlets once held up as a potential contender against then-President Donald Trump, is now facing a monster prison term that could see him die behind bars well before serving all his time.

According to Reuters, Avenatti has pleaded guilty to dozens of charges including defrauding his clients, bank fraud, lying to the IRS, and others. He faces more than 300 years in prison on 36 criminal charges in a California case.

And this is in addition to a five-year prison stint he is already slated to serve for defrauding Stormy Daniels, a porn star who claimed she and Trump had an affair and he paid her off to keep quiet.

Reuters notes:

A federal jury convicted Avenatti in February of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft after a two-week trial, agreeing with prosecutors that he embezzled nearly $300,000 in book proceeds intended for Daniels.

He had already been serving a 2-1/2-year sentence stemming from his 2020 federal conviction for trying to extort millions of dollars from Nike Inc. He has appealed that conviction.

He was nicknamed “creepy porn lawyer” by Fox News’ Tucker Carlson. He also had an explosive interview with Avenatti three years ago:

Carlson introduced Avenatti on “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” explaining that in the past, Avenatti has “demanded that we stop referring to him by a certain, unflattering nickname.”

“We haven’t agreed to that demand, but tonight, as a gesture of goodwill, we will not use that nickname,” Carlson vowed. “Because we’re always grateful when guests are brave enough to show up in person, including in this case.”

He then turned to his guest.

“We could sit here and hurl insults at each other for the segment. Already done that,” Carlson told Avenatti. “I’ve certainly insulted you. You’ve insulted me. But you seem smart, so let me take you seriously as somebody who wants to be involved in the public conversation.”

CNN noted further that in 2019, Avenatti was indicted on dozens of charges of defrauding his clients. The indictment said that beginning in 2015, the attorney enacted a scheme to defraud five clients, one of whom was a paraplegic from whom Avenatti is accused of withholding a settlement payment of $4 million.

After negotiating settlements on behalf of clients that required payments to go to them, he lied to several clients regarding the terms of the settlements and instead deposited the funds into accounts that he controlled, according to the indictment.

Prosecutors said he would then embezzle and misappropriate those funds. In order to hide what he was doing, prosecutors allege that he would tell clients the settlement proceeds had not yet been paid, among other falsehoods.

“Avenatti’s change of plea comes one month before he was set to go on trial in California on embezzlement and fraud charges and two weeks after he was sentenced to four years in prison for stealing nearly $300,000 from his then-client Stormy Daniels,” CNN added.

The court filing states: “Mr. Avenatti wishes to plea in order to be accountable; accept responsibility; avoid his former clients being further burdened; save the court and the government significant resources; and save his family from further embarrassment.”
