You wouldn’t know it, but the illegal migrant crisis that came as a result of Joe Biden undoing the majority of President Donald Trump’s border enforcement policies is still a thing — and the reason most Americans don’t know that is because the major news networks, all run by leftists, are no longer covering it.
For a few months over the summer, the networks had little choice but to cover the crisis it had grown so quickly and had gotten so bad that even Democrats were complaining about it, especially those who represent border districts in Texas and Arizona, where the crossings are the worst.
Then came the tent city set up almost overnight by thousands of Haitian migrants under a bridge in Texas that was also impossible to ignore.
But now that Biden’s economy is tanking along with his popularity, the last thing the left-wing nets want to do is pile on and add to his cratering job approval numbers, as noted by Newsbusters, an organization that pays attention to these things [their emphasis]:
The crisis at the border is still spiraling out of control and the liberal news networks are determined to smother any mention of it. According to statistics from U.S. Customs and Border Security, there were 173,600 encounters along the southern border in November. This is a five percent increase over October. Yet, the evening newscast coverage dropped to a shocking zero. Zero minutes and zero seconds on ABC’s World News Tonight, the CBS Evening News and the NBC Nightly News.
That’s down a stunning 100 percent from March when the same network newscasts felt they couldn’t ignore the deteriorating crisis at the border. That month, there was a whopping 113 minutes of coverage for 173,281 encounters.
“The network evening newscasts were interested in some border clashes in November, but they were in Europe. All three networks repeatedly covered the dispute between Belarus and Poland,” Newsbusters noted.
“On November 16, World News Tonight’s David Muir opened the show by worrying: ‘Overseas, tonight, our team on the scene of the violent clash involving migrants at the border separating Belarus and Poland.’ This is an important story, but it’s depressing that journalists thought it was the only border crisis worth covering.”
Making this bad situation even worse, of course, are Biden’s policies:
— He ended Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy which has been ordered resumed by a federal court, though Mexico’s restrictions this time will make it far less effective;
— He shut down Trump’s border wall construction, leaving gaping holes in which migrant and drug smugglers are exploiting;
— He essentially re-implemented ‘catch-and-release,’ leading hundreds of thousands to be set free inside the U.S. to wait for immigration hearings most will never show up for;
— He and fellow Democrats continue to float an amnesty that will create a mad dash for our borders from all over the world.
— His administration is reportedly negotiating a settlement with at least hundreds of migrant families who crossed illegally during the Trump years, to the tune of $450,000 per payout.
Trump blasted the administration for its border policies, or lack thereof.
“It’s not even believeable what they’re doing,” the 45th President of the United States said on the “Clay Travis & Buck Sexton” radio show in late October. “It’s not even believable.”
“One of the things we were doing is separation, which was done before us,” he said. “But ‘separation,’ when people heard that, they didn’t come because if a parent hears they’re gonna be separated, they didn’t come. [That’s] one of the reasons I was so successful at the border.”
“When you look at what they’re doing at the border, there’s never been anything like it,” he added. “The greatest we’ve ever had went to the worst — probably one of the worst in the history of the world because no country can sustain what’s happening to our country.”
