Connecticut Takes Action Against Hunter Biden Following Scandals

While the federal government continues to investigate — reportedly — first son Hunter Biden, one blue state has actually taken an enforcement action against him.

According to Thursday reports, the state of Connecticut has suspended Biden’s law license, claiming he used it to promote international business endeavors, which includes securing a $1 million retainer in 2017 from the CEO of CEFC China Energy Co.

Trending Politics noted that the first son did not pay the mandatory $75 Client Security Fund fee that is required in order to practice law in the state.

“This isn’t the first time that the troubled member of the Biden political family has had his license suspended. It’s actually the third time. On both occasions, he previously failed to pay the necessary fee for licensed attorneys in the state,” the report said.

Hunter Biden has been the subject of legal troubles and controversies throughout his life. In recent years, his legal issues have come to the forefront of the public consciousness, sparking debates about ethics, nepotism, and corruption.

One of the most high-profile controversies involving Hunter Biden is his role in the Ukrainian gas company Burisma. In 2014, he joined the company’s board of directors, despite having no experience in the energy sector or in Ukraine. This move drew scrutiny, as it coincided with his father’s position as Vice President of the United States and his role in Ukraine policy. Critics accused Hunter Biden of using his father’s position to secure the appointment and of engaging in corrupt practices while serving on the board.

These allegations were further fuelled by a 2019 phone call between then-President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zeleneskyy, in which Trump asked for an investigation into the Bidens’ dealings in Ukraine, which put a spotlight on Hunter Biden’s activities and raised questions about conflicts of interest.

Hunter Biden’s legal troubles extend beyond his role in Burisma. In 2020, it was revealed that he was the subject of a federal investigation into his taxes. The investigation, which was launched in 2018, focused on Biden’s foreign business dealings and whether he correctly reported the income from those deals on his tax returns. In December 2020, it was reported that the investigation was still ongoing.

In addition to the federal investigation, Biden has also faced legal challenges related to his personal life. In 2019, he was sued for child support by an Arkansas woman who claimed he fathered her child. While he initially denied the paternity claim, he later acknowledged that he was the child’s father and settled the case out of court.

In October, FBI agents said they saw enough evidence against the president’s son to charge him with crimes related to taxes and guns. A US Attorney in Delaware will now be responsible for deciding whether charges are put forward.

The Washington Post reported that agents at the Bureau began investigating the junior Biden in 2018 after questions were raised surrounding his work in several foreign countries, including Ukraine. Then-president Trump made a big deal about the younger Biden’s dealings during his 2020 reelection campaign.

Agents began investigating Hunter Biden‘s finances after allegations came about his business dealings and ties overseas, followed by investigations about whether he lied about his income or whether he lied on gun purchase paperwork, the source told the Post.

The Justice Department must make the call on whether or not to file charges against Biden. David C. Weiss, a Trump nominee from 2017, is supervising the case,
Attorney General Merrick Garland has said.
