The media has spent its time promoting the candidacy of Vice President Kamala Harris since she was named the heir apparent to President Joe Biden on the Democrat presidential ticket, but its patience has worn thin.
On Tuesday, CNN host John Berman pressed the campaign about not doing any interviews when she did not have anything on her schedule for the day.
And on Wednesday CNN anchor Jim Acosta, who may be the most anti-former President Donald Trump host on the network, also went after the campaign.
“I’m sure this is not going to be the first time you’ve heard this question, but the Trump campaign is also going after the vice president for not doing enough interviews, for not holding a press conference — would it kill you guys to have a press conference? Why hasn’t she had a press conference?” Acosta said to Harris staffer Michael Tyler.
The staffer responded that the vice president and Tim Walz were busy “crisscrossing” America, which has been a common excuse used by the campaign for its lack of press access.
“She’s the vice president, she can handle the questions, why not do it?” the host said.
“We absolutely are going to do it. You hear her take questions as she’s out on the stump, and as she said last week, we’re going to be having a sit-down interview here before the end of the month,” Tyler said.
“Can you commit to a press conference this week?” Acosta pressed as Tyler ignored the question.
He then questioned Tyler about committing to one press conference before the end of the month, which would assure that a variety of reporters, not simply one hand-selected by the campaign, would be able to ask her questions. However, the staffer would not make that commitment.
“We will commit to directly engage with the voters,” the staffer said.
“They’re actually going to decide this election, and that is going to be complete with rallies, with sit-down interviews, with press conferences, with all the digital assets at our disposal. We are running a campaign that is built to communicate with the voters that are actually going to decide the pathway to 270 electoral votes,” he added.
