HBO’s “Real Time” host Bill Maher engaged in more back-and-forth with a rock-ribbed leftist, director and actor Rob Reiner, over the mainstream media’s refusal leading up to the 2020 election and since to honestly and accurately report the contents of deviant first son Hunter Biden’s laptop.
Just weeks before the election, the New York Post was the first to publish several bombshells regarding materials gleaned from the laptop after a copy of its hard drive was leaked to the outlet, reportedly by then-Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani. The laptop had been abandoned by Hunter Biden in 2019 at a computer repair shop in Delaware; the shop owner eventually turned over the device to the FBI in late 2019, and the bureau has sat on it since then.
The Post’s revelations were censored outright by Twitter, which also barred the outlet from its account for weeks. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitted to top podcaster Joe Rogan last week that after the FBI told his company the laptop’s contents were ‘likely Russian disinformation,’ reports regarding laptop materials were downgraded on the platform for a week or so.
More than 50 current and former intelligence officials also signed a letter lying about the fact that they considered the contents ‘Russian disinformation’ as well. And most mainstream media outlets that lean left anyway used that letter as ‘cover’ to justify reporting the contents as ‘suspected Russian disinformation’ despite never having seen any of the original materials.
Ergo, those outlets were all-in for dementia Joe Biden and so they weren’t going to report anything that would harm his chances of being elected — even if he and his son were involved in business deals with foreign entities and governments that would compromise our country’s national security.
Not surprisingly, super leftist Reiner took the side of the media, while Maher suggested that the media had an obligation to report the facts surrounding the laptop, not serve as propagandists for the deep state.
“Is it okay to have a conspiracy to get rid of Trump?” Maher said. “They were talking about Hunter Biden’s laptop, which was a story and now all the mainstream press has finally admitted it was a real story. It was a real laptop.
“Let’s not pussyfoot around this; he was selling the influence of his father, Joe Biden,” Maher said. “Most political sons do, but let’s not pretend at least that was going on. Hunter Biden’s laptop was buried by the press.”

Zuckerberg’s revelation to podcast king Joe Rogan follow Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson telling DOJ officials multiple FBI whistleblowers have come forward to say bureau brass barred them from investigating the laptop, which the FBI had had for nearly a year before the election.
Maher noted influential Leftist atheist author Sam Harris’s recent declaration that ignoring stories that could have hurt Biden was justified in order to prevent Trump from being re-elected.
“Sam Harris says it was appropriate for Twitter, and the heads of Big Tech, and the heads of journalistic organizations to feel that they were in the presence of something that is a once-in-a-lifetime moral emergency, meaning Trump,” Maher said. “So he’s saying it’s okay to have a conspiracy, to get rid of somebody as bad as Trump.”
Reiner responded by deflecting with a Jan. 6 Capitol riot comparison.
“You know what’s not justified?” Reiner asked. “Using armed violence to try to kill people in the Capitol. That’s not justified.”
For the record, the only “armed violence” that led to a death that day was the shooting of unarmed protestor Ashli Babbitt by a Capitol Police lieutenant, Michael Byrd — who once left his loaded service weapon in a Capitol bathroom.
“Answer this question!” Maher demanded. “The question is, was it appropriate to bury the Hunter Biden [laptop story]?”
“And we know for a fact that that’s what they did?” Reiner shot back.
“Of course!” Maher said. “You don’t follow this?”
“I don’t know what they did,” Reiner claimed.
“I know because you only watch MSNBC,” Maher said.
