AOC Wants to Do Away With Incarceration ‘Designed to Trap Black and Brown Men’

“I want peace” Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) exclaimed at a campaign event for Ohio congressional candidate Nina Turner over the weekend. Just how does AOC want to get that peace? By completely abolishing the U.S. carceral system.

Doing away with incarceration for criminals and expecting “peace” as a result goes to show just how delusional Rep. Ocasio-Cortez is. The congresswoman said “I want to abolish our carceral system that’s designed to trap Black and Brown men” at the Cleveland event.

“I want justice. I want peace, and I want prosperity. That’s what I want” demanded AOC. Not surprisingly, AOC’s audience was filled with Bernie Sanders loving socialists, Turner is a progressive former state senator and co-chair of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign.

Turner is running for Ohio’s 11th Congressional District which has an open seat vacated by former U.S. Representative Marcia Fudge who went on to become secretary of Housing and Urban Development for the Biden administration in March.

“This is a deep blue seat. It’s a deep blue seat” AOC was reported to have said. “Districts like Ohio’s should be leading the country on issues. They are opportunities, they are very rare opportunities, very rare districts like this one that can take and be visionary” she added.

“This isn’t about Nina versus any opponent; this is about the people versus big money” said Ocasio-Cortez, applauding Turner’s fight against corporate politics. The campaign of Turner’s biggest opponent, local Democratic Party chairwoman Shontel Brown, who is a moderate, responded to AOC’s comments.

“The contrast in this race could not be clearer. Shontel Brown is the only candidate who from day one can work with the Biden administration and our house majority to deliver good-paying jobs, affordable healthcare, and affordable prescription drugs to northeast Ohio” said the campaign. Rather, they should have bragged about having the intelligence not to ask Ocasio-Cortez to come campaign for them.
