AG Garland Doesn't Rule Out Charging Trump Over Jan. 6, Not Concerned About 'Tearing The Country Apart'

Attorney General Merrick Garland is proving once again that he was never the judicial ‘moderate’ that then-President Barack Obama claimed he was when he nominated him to the U.S. Supreme Court during his final year in office.

Rather, as Republicans who refused to even consider his nomination were well aware, Garland is just another left-wing political hack posing as an ‘unbiased arbiter of the law.’

In an interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt on Tuesday, Garland responded to reports that his Justice Department was actively investigating former President Donald Trump’s actions on Jan. 6, 2021, as a riot broke out at the U.S. Capitol Building, suggesting that somehow Trump’s actions — or lack of action — were criminal.

Garland pointedly dismissed any concerns about the civil unrest a prosecution of Trump might cause in a country that is already as bitterly divided as Democrats can make it.

“You said in no uncertain terms the other day that no one is above the law,” Holt began. “That said, the indictment of a former president, or perhaps candidate for president, would arguably tear the country apart. Is that your concern as you make your decision down the road here, do you have to think about things like that?”

“Look, we pursue justice without fear or favor,” said Garland, the man responsible for ordering the FBI to investigate parents who show up at school board meetings to push back on divisive, far-left curriculum like transgender ideology and critical race theory.

“We intend to hold everyone, anyone who was criminally responsible for the events surrounding Jan. 6, for any attempt to interfere with the lawful transfer of power from one administration to another, accountable. That’s what we do, we don’t pay any attention to other issues with respect to that,” Garland said with a straight face.

Holt pressed further: “So if Donald Trump were to become a candidate for president again, that would not change your schedule or how you move forward or don’t move forward?”

Garland responded: “I’ll say again that we will hold accountable anyone who is criminally responsible for attempting to interfere with the transfer, legitimate, lawful transfer of power, from one administration to the next.”

The ramifications of the Biden regime bringing actual criminal charges against the opposition party’s top presidential contender are immense; any charge, regardless of severity, will be taken by Trump’s supporters as blatant political persecution (and rightfully so).

Garland’s comments come after The Washington Post reported Tuesday, using anonymous sources, of course, that the Justice Department’s prosecutors are questioning ‘witnesses’ in front of a grand jury about Trump’s alleged role in the “insurrection” at the Capitol. The paper made it sound as if charges against Trump are practically certain.

“There are two principal tracks of the investigation that could ultimately lead to additional scrutiny of Trump, two people familiar with the situation said, also speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation,” the paper reported.

“The first centers on seditious conspiracy and conspiracy to obstruct a government proceeding, the type of charges already filed against individuals who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 and on two leaders of far-right groups, Stewart Rhodes and Henry ‘Enrique’ Tarrio, who did not breach the Capitol but were allegedly involved in planning the day’s events,” the paper added.

“The second involves potential fraud associated with the false-electors scheme or with pressure Trump and his allies allegedly put on the Justice Department and others to falsely claim that the election was rigged and votes were fraudulently cast,” said the Post.

“Both tracks are consistent with the Liz Cheney-Nancy Pelosi select committee’s Soviet-style show trial, one that could soon expand to draw in other enemies of the regime including Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas,” BizPac Review added.

The Biden regime appears to have decided to put the country on a collision course with itself, likely as a way to distract from the horrible mess Democrats and their dementia patient president have made of things.
