Rep. Adam Kinzinger may or may not have a political career left following his decision to retire this year rather than run for reelection in a newly-gerrymandered district in Democrat-run Illinois, but if he does, he is not likely to be welcomed back by rank-and-file Republicans.
He destroyed whatever remaining political capital he had left after initially running as a Tea Party supporter in 2012 when he decided to blame then-President Donald Trump for the riot at the U.S. Capitol Building on Jan. 6, 2021, that some experts suggest may have been, shall we say, ‘planned,’ and then agreed to become one of two token Republicans on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s partisan panel ‘investigating’ the ‘origins’ of the riot.
After buying a ticket on the never-Trump train, Kinzinger, an Air Force pilot, has taken to his new role as MAGA agitator well, almost as though he was born to it, going so far during an interview this week to declare — declare, mind you — that Trump cannot ever be allowed to become our president again (like that feeble, elderly man currently in the Oval Office is doing a bang-up job with our economy and foreign policy).
“If Donald Trump gets the Republican nomination there are many of us that will move heaven and earth to ensure he doesn’t win. I think that’s the most important thing. He cannot be president again,” Kinzinger said in a video clip posted online.

Kinzinger’s remarks were blasted by critics on social media.
