'A Special Kind of Stupid': GOP Rips Dems 'Inflation Reduction' Bill They Say Will Boost Taxes, Costs on American Families

Democrats are cheering their narrow victory in passing a massive new spending bill that advances the party’s radically leftist ‘green’ agenda, but Republicans are warning that the party will pay a huge price in the November midterms.

All 50 Senate Republicans voted against the misnamed “Inflation Reduction Act” while all 50 Democrats voted in favor. Since it was passed under budget reconciliation procedures thereby avoiding the 60-vote filibuster, it passed the chamber with Vice President Kamala Harris’ tiebreaking vote.

“Democrats will pay the price in November for raising taxes on families during a recession,” Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel noted in a statement.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), meanwhile, likened the bill to a “give-away to the Democrats’ radical leftist base at the expense of middle-class Americans,” according to Fox News.

“The Schumer-Manchin bill will drive up inflation and prices, hammer small businesses and American manufacturing, increase the price of gas, and sic the IRS on Americans, all while raising taxes on Americans in nearly every tax bracket including those who make less than $400,000 a year,” Cruz said in a statement, the outlet reported.

In a separate statement, Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) said that raising taxes during both a recession and inflation is “a special kind of stupid.”

“[T]hat’s called stagflation, which is what we have right now as a result of President Biden’s policies,” Kennedy noted in a tweet that contained a video statement.

Tennessee Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn also ripped Democrats for passing another large spending bill when inflation is at a 41-year high and the country has entered a recession following two straight quarters of negative economic growth.

“During a recession and with inflation at a 41-year high, Democrats just passed a bill to spend over $700 billion, increase taxes and decrease energy production,” she noted on Twitter.

“The Democrats’ reckless tax and spending plan includes nearly $370 billion to fund the Green New Deal, $64 billion for Obamacare, and hundreds of billions in new taxes on American businesses and manufacturers,” she added.

“We should be cutting taxes, not increasing them,” Blackburn said in a Twitter thread. “It is a shame the Senate Democrats have forced through a socialist agenda that will make life more difficult and expensive for Tennesseans.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) went on to accuse the opposition party of not considering “middle-class families’ priorities.”

“Democrats’ policies have torn down the savings, the stability, and the lifestyles that families worked and sacrificed for years to build up,” McConnell said in a statement. “The effect of this one-party government has been an economic assault on the American middle class.”

The House plans to return briefly from its current recess to vote on the measure Friday, which is on track to pass.
